To the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in Legislature Assembled:
We the undersigned residents of Alberta, petition the Legislative Assembly to urge the government of Alberta to:
1. Introduce legislation to create a provincial entity that would have the rights of a "public passenger service provider" as defined in the Canada Transportation Act, with the mandate to develop and operate commuter rail in Alberta.
2. Consider allocating funding to develop and operate a frequent and reliable commuter rail service serving Okotoks, Calgary, Airdrie, Red Deer, Maskwacis, Leduc and Points between with fares that would be affordable for the majority of Albertans.
3. Introduce legislation to protect the rights of rail passengers and allow the government to define performance standards for the timely operation of such a commuter rail service.
